Haikus // 2023

Another one.

10th January

Leek and potato

Soup maker, do your smooth thing

But leave some roughage

.

18th February

Jill Whiteley’s gone

Rotored off to sunny shores

And a glass city

.

7th April

Daffodils spring up

Bold yellow trumpets tooting

The fresh season’s song

.

20th April

Vauxhall bibimbap

A Gordon Ramsay beer ad

plays, madly, on loop

.

20th May

Sweatbox mini bus

Through green Transylvania

Unspoiled trees and hills

.

4th June

T-shirts say, “SELF MADE”

and “I CAN’T IT’S TAX SEASON”

Manhattan logic

.

30th July

London housing’s churn

Moving day… four… flights… of… stairs…

Sisyphus happy

.

15th August

There’s a storm brewing

Lightning over Lake Garda

The low roar of wind

.

22nd September

Seasons change slowly

But not this time… the downpour

Fall and bone’s cold snap

.

3rd October

The old boiler’s out

Born: two thousand and seven

It huffs its last breath

.

8th October

We buried Ferry

At the end of the garden

In his coconut

.

31st December

Micro and macro

Another year of haikus

While floating in space

.
